I don't understand why some people are not only opposed but have also condemned commissioner Dr.Akombe for resigning. I am disturbed that as a commissioner you do not enjoy the inalienable right to resign from duty at your own discretion. Am sure commission chairman Wafula Wanyonyi Chebukati and a few more are dying to resign but the state won't have any of it.
The question that begs, is why are Kenyan political leaders quick to cling to power like Robert Mugabe or Yoweri Museveni. It is not just because power corrupts or is sweet. It is because those who ascend to power see power as the shortcut to riches. Those wallowing in power squander the power which is placed under their custody. Of course the power does not belong to them but the sovereign people. Yet they ignominiously abuse the power they are custodian of.
Most Kenyan leaders view power as the only alley to the feeding trough - that is the public coffers. Once they get their mouths into the clover trough, they ravenously lick the coffers dry. They eat until there is nothing to eat, borrow from without and eat again what is borrowed, once it finds its way into the public coffers.
Consequently such voracious ravaging of the public coffers compels the incumbents to seek a means of securing immunity from accountability and culpability. This is only achievable by locking honest leaders out of the strongroom of power. Once they are denied access to the "servers " of power, the perpetrators are free to enjoy impunity of the highest order.
This is why electoral commissions all over Africa are captives of the incumbent regimes. The election commissioners are normally held hostage so that there is nothing they can do independently that may affect the incumbent regimes negatively, instead they carry their duties in tandem with the wishes of the respective governments even if it means rigging out the plebiscites.
Except for a few cases where there are presidents with some consciousness left, the results have always been as expected, change of regime. Change is better than a rest. African people always agitate for change. Chiefly because as Africans our leaders are still inclined to scuttle democracy and suffocate the rule of law and open governance.
Perhaps, its because we are still under the evil spirit of the white mans dominance. We want to dominate, domineer and patronize fellow Africans. What the hell! African leaders Robb the poor to enrich themselves and their cronies.
As such you will see negative comments on Dr Roselyn Akombe's wise decision to resign from an incredible outfit that cannot deliver a free and fair presidential election within the timeline.
This was a lady who did not wish to be party to an evil scheme for the bible says 2Corrinthians 6:14; " Do not be yoked together with unbelievers, for what do wickedness and righteousness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15. What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God."
