Ever
since Nairobi senator, Mike Sonko handpicked Polycap Igathe from the corporate
sector to be his running mate, his popularity has dwindled, albeit on account
of his choice running mate. Despite this vignette narrative, that ensued, which
casts aspersions on Sonko’s character especially by the elite class, his own
political detractors, and competitors; Sonko
has managed to swim against the tide of this miscreant trait tag. His philanthropy
and pity for the sufferers has earned him a soft spot in the hearts of the low
class city dwellers.
The
very first time, Sonko while on national television, hinted he was
brainstorming searching for an appropriate, intelligent corporate manager as
his running mate to specifically help in the running of Nairobi economy and
affairs, that was the point the rain started beating him. By saying so, he was
accepting and insinuating he did not possess the requisite competence for the dark
heavy ginormous cloud of job hanging over his head. He portrayed a grim, appalling
picture of his hands on and knowhow.
So
sad how Sonko engineered the narrative now dragging him down as an unqualified,
incompetent and worse more, incapable manager. Personally I don’t know how this
is possible of a man who has the experience of being a member of parliament and
Senator besides, having a bachelor’s degree in business management. I know he
was trying to be honest, yet he ought to have made this strategic choice
without disclosing it to the media and public. Then he could just rubbish the
narrative as some cheap propaganda to be debacled by his government.
Whether
he will pull through this one, I highly doubt. It will be an uphill task. Nevertheless,
he still has a huge chance to be the governor of Nairobi, if and only if,
Jubilee votes will not be scattered between himself and Pk. The narrative of curing Sonkos inadequacy
might not hold any water, since most elite middle class do not even have so
much interest in voting like the poor low-class city residents. Their votes
count a lot but may not significantly sway the win towards NASA camp. Although Sonko
could easily sail through this narrative which decries him as an incompetent
reprobate, his towering impediment to the gubernatorial seat will be his own
rival Peter Kenneth. Probably some undecided voters might jump ship and opt to
vote Dr. Evans Kidero.
