THE FALL OF NAIROBI COUNTY
With the inception of county government in 2013, Kenyans, specifically the over three million nairobians, had extravagant expectations from one man Dr. Evans Kidero who was to be the first inaugural governor taking on an elephantine task of steering the most crucial county housing Kenya's capital and national headquarters. It was an uphill task but albeit with the competence and management proficiency he had, the son of Asumbi was poised to achieve a lot and mitigate Nairobi's problems.
Unfortunately Nairobians are an impatient generation. They wanted everything sorted in one year. What a hypocrisy? Without structures foundations making remarkabke progress in two years could not only be described as a pipe dream but a daytime reverie. Kidero needed time to achieve transformation of the city. His second term would be a critical opportunity to enable his government execute his ambitious plans after fixing structures and rudimentals, too bad his reelection was rigged.
Ever since Dr. Evans Kidero was robbed of his bid to bring to completion his blue print for Nairobi, Nairobians have been faced with a more pathetic state of affairs courtesy of an incompetent, not up to snuff half-arsed leadership.
I don't want to think about the mugging in the city centre that has necessitated an Anti-mugging squad, the bodaboda riders fiasco and the return of hawkers on the pavements of the CBD. Am not crying foul over the spate of insecurity at Muthurua and the entire Nairobi county, nor am I pegging the sorry state of insecurity to the newly amorphous Nairobi business community. Though, I believe these people constitute the greatest number of hardcore criminals in Nairobi. In fact they only swing into action only once there is a civil protest
The most intriguing social insecurity upheaval I have seen happened a few days ago in Nairobi. A criminal gang alleged to be The Forty Brothers ambushed some church in industrial area, codoned the area and took charge of the church premises. For over one hour the church was under siege by the 40Brothers(as is alleged).
The worshippers both within the church house(Temple of God), within the compound and those trouping in were frisked of valuables in a rough manner. Once they were done they flee leaving the worshipers counting their trials and tribulations within the holy ground. Should I liken this to the destruction of Jerusalem by emperor Titus or King Nebuchadnezzar in the 6C BC? I don't know.
